LTC's
New Approach to SAP Training Boosts
Employees' Productivity
Tool
Training Gives End Users the Big Picture
DALLAS,
March 26, 2002 - Aiming to fill a gap in the way corporate
employees are trained in the use of SAP software, Luttrell
Training and Consulting (LTC) has launched a line of training
classes to make employees more effective and less dependent
on company help desks.
Too many companies train their employees in isolated SAP transactions
using a step by step approach, which does not help the user
understand the transaction and why they are doing what they
are doing, said Ginger Luttrell, president and founder of
LTC. The SAP tool training offered by LTC was developed from
an end-user perspective, unlike other SAP training, which
targets the technical and procedural aspects of the system.
It gives employees a deeper understanding of specific transactions
and greater insight into the capabilities of those transactions,
which helps them and their companies get more out of the SAP
system.
The training classes grew out of LTC's business process consulting
practice, when Luttrell saw firsthand how so many training
programs fall short of enabling the user to work independently
and efficiently with the system. The classes are held onsite
at LTC's Dallas training facility. A typical class has a dozen
students and is held in a relaxed and comfortable business
environment, providing hands-on training on state-of-the-art
personal workstations.
"What
we have found is that companies emphasize how their employees
should perform specific transactions unique to their company
without educating the user on the tools and capabilities within
the transactions," Luttrell explained. "The users
don't grasp the transaction in its entirety and how it fits
into the bigger SAP picture or how their transaction affects
other parts of the business if it is improperly performed."
The LTC training emphasizes the elements of SAP that employees
can leverage to become more productive. Through LTC's training,
employees will become more self-sufficient and less intimidated,
and won't need to call the IT department for help at every
problem they encounter.
Typically, the end user employees who use the SAP system range
from managers and executives to administrative assistants,
clerical workers, accounting and finance personnel, warehouse
and shipping workers, and manufacturing employees. Essentially,
anyone who needs to input or extract data from the SAP system
to perform their job can benefit from LTC's training.
For companies, end user training creates employees who are
able to solve their own problems and who can utilize SAP as
a tool to enhance their jobs. When companies need to move
employees from department to department, the employees can
take their broader skills with them. Employees benefit because
their knowledge enhances their skills and capabilities, making
them more valuable to their company.
"What we emphasize in the training is turning employees
into intelligent assets," Luttrell said. "When they
return to their offices, they can identify, recommend, and
implement new procedures that enhance their performance and
make their companies' business processes more efficient."
LTC provides the training classes as part of its business
process consulting practice and also as a standalone offering.
LTC can also customize training programs to fit companies'
specific needs. The classes are taught by learning facilitators
with more than 20 years of education and training experience,
working for major corporations. To help improve student's
retention levels, LTC uses a variety of games and interactive
activities to engage students in the learning process. The
training methodology is based upon adult learning and retention
models.
